The Los Angeles Rams have talked to free-agent tight end Jordan Reed, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Reed was cut by the Washington Redskins on Feb. 20, and due to the fact that he has sustained seven known concussions, his NFL playing career appears to be in jeopardy.

The 29-year-old did not play at all in 2019.

Of course, Reed is very familiar with Rams head coach Sean McVay, who served as the Redskins' tight end coach during Reed's rookie campaign in 2013 and then as the club's offensive coordinator from 2014 through 2016.

Reed had his most productive seasons under McVay's watch, including the 2015 campaign in which he hauled in 87 receptions for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns in 14 games.

However, that also marked the most contests Reed has ever played in one individual season.

Since then, Reed has appeared in 12, 6, 13 and zero games, respectively, and in 2013 and 2014, he participated in a grand total of 20 contests.

There is no denying Reed's talent, but he has had extraordinary difficult staying on the field since entering the league, and it may not be a great idea for a guy who has had that many head injuries to continue playing.

On top of that, Los Angeles doesn't really have a need at tight end, as Tyler Higbee had a breakout 2019 season in which he caught 69 passes for 734 yards and three scores, so Reed would be an auxiliary piece more than anything else even if he were able to play.

The Rams went just 9-7 and missed the playoffs this past season, one year after making it all the way to the Super Bowl.
