As the Los Angeles Rams embark on another season to reach their ultimate goal of a Super Bowl, they seem to be putting all contract talks on hold. Ahead of the regular season, Los Angeles is not focused on extending Jared Goff or Marcus Peters.

“I think right now we’ve been so busy just kind of handling training camp, things like that,” McVay said. “Those are two very important players to us as we move forward this season. That’s kind of where we’re at right now with that.”

Entering the 2019 season, Goff is technically signed through the 2020 season after the team picked up his fifth-year option this offseason. Nonetheless, the Rams want to secure their franchise quarterback with a long-term contract.

Earlier this offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles signed Carson Wentz to a four-year, $128 million deal. Of course, Wentz was drafted just one pick behind Goff in the 2016 NFL Draft. Therefore, many have been led to believe that Goff would be signing his extension soon.

Les Snead, the Rams general manager, has already said it's a matter of when—not if—Goff gets a new deal with the team. Sean McVay also reiterated the same sentiment when speaking about his signal-caller.

As for Peters, the playmaking cornerback is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Prior to the 2018 season, Los Angeles acquired Peters via trade from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Peters' first season with the Rams was a bit of a rollercoaster ride as he was inconsistent in 2018. The energetic defensive back finished with three interceptions after his first year with the franchise.

The Rams know that both players are crucial to what they want to do this season but while they shift their focus on the regular season; they want to table contract talks for the time being.
