Any talks about the Los Angeles Rams curbing quarterback Jared Goff's contract extension are over. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Rams are expected to sign Goff to a four-year extension. Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, it is “trending toward the largest guarantee in NFL history.”

In doing so, the Rams have their starting quarterback locked up through the 2024 season.

The Rams took Goff No. 1 overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. His first season was a disappointment with Jeff Fisher coaching him, as he went o-7; throwing for 1,089 yards, five touchdowns, and seven interceptions on a 54.6% completion rate.

Since then, however, Goff has turned into what the Rams expected of the former Cal Golden Bear. In his first season with Sean McVay as his head coach, Goff earned a Pro-Bowl, as he threw for 3,804 yards, 28 touchdowns, and seven interceptions on a 62.1% completion rate.

In 2018, Goff proved that his first Pro-Bowl year was no fluke. For the majority of the season, he was on MVP watch behind his teammate Todd Gurley, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He went to the Pro-Bowl for the second time, throwing for 4,688 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions on a 64.9% completion rate in the process.

More important than his two-straight Pro-Bowl nods, Goff went to the Super Bowl in year three of his career. Though he lost, he showed that he was the franchise quarterback; the Rams, considering the looming extension, must believe the same. He will be the second 2016 first-round quarterback to earn a contract extension in the 2019 offseason (Carson Wentz – Philadelphia Eagles).
