Los Angeles Rams cornerback Marcus Peters is entering the 2019 campaign without a new deal, so one would obviously assume that his lack of a presence at the Rams' voluntary workouts was because of his contract situation.

However, that has nothing to do with it.

According to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN, Peters is currently in Oakland awaiting the birth of his child, which explains his absence.

Peters is entering the final year of his current deal and is scheduled to make $9.1 million this upcoming season.

The Rams acquired the 26-year-old in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs last offseason.

In his first season in Los Angeles, Peters played in all 16 games and finished with 43 tackles, three interceptions, eight passes defended, and a defensive touchdown in what was an up and down year for him.

Peters got off to a rough start in the first half of the 2018 campaign, but he definitely improved as the season went on and was much closer to his old self in the second half of the year.

The Oakland native, who played his collegiate football at the University of Washington, was originally selected by the Chiefs in the first round (18th pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He appeared in all 16 contests during his rookie season and had a terrific year, racking up 60 tackles, eight picks, a forced fumble, 26 passes defended, and a pair of defensive scores en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Then, the following year, Peters totaled 45 stops, six interceptions, a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, and 20 passes defended, making the Pro Bowl and earning First-Team All-Pro honors.

In his final season in Kansas City, Peters recorded 46 tackles, five picks, three forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, nine passes defended, and a defensive touchdown.
