The Los Angeles Rams haven't been the dominant force that most thought they would be coming into this 2019 NFL regular season. Sean McVay and company have struggled on both sides of the football and have barely been able to stay above .500 (3-2) with five weeks in the books.

Although the offense has had some glaring weaknesses throughout the first five weeks of the season, the defense has been a primary concern for this Rams squad moving forward, especially after giving up 85 points combined in consecutive losses the past two weeks. Star cornerback Marcus Peters thinks he knows what the team needs to do to right the ship on defense, and it all starts with fundamentals, via Gary Klein of the LA Times.

“We just gotta just go back to fundamentals,” Peters said. “Everybody just do their job and line up and just play our ball.”

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers went blow for blow with the Rams back in Week 4, scoring 55 points on this defense. Los Angeles couldn't correct their problems on that side of the football before taking on the division rival Seattle Seahawks the next week as they fell to Russell Wilson's squad in a close game, 30-29.

Peters went more in-depth about the team's issues defensively and how it isn't all on the cornerbacks, via Klein.

“I don’t think it’s just as far as the defensive backs,” Peters said. “It’s the defense, period. Just all of us, just harping on it, just how to play better defense overall. How do we get off on third downs. How we can create some more turnovers. And just how we eliminate the big balls.

“The big ball’s the thing that’s been occurring these last few weeks, and just eliminate it.”

With the Seahawks showing their a formidable opponent and the San Francisco 49ers being a legitimate contender at this point, the Rams will have their work cut out for them moving forward in the NFC West. It won't be easy to even come out of their division this time around.
