Matthew Stafford enjoyed quite the 2021-2022 season. It began with a trade from the Detroit Lions to the Los Angeles Rams, and it ended with a Super Bowl victory at his new home stadium. But winning a championship under the bright lights of Inglewood, CA will not be the last newsworthy story in regards to Stafford before the 2022 season gets underway.

Stafford and the Rams reportedly have agreed on a contract extension, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The deal is worth $160 million over four years.

Matthew Stafford silenced all of his critics this past season with the Super Bowl win. While most of the accolades went to Cooper Kupp and Aaron Donald, Stafford posted a star-esque season himself. The veteran quarterback threw for over 4,800 yards along with 41 passing touchdowns and a 102.9 QB rating.

As for the Rams, they clearly needed an upgrade at the position following the 2020 campaign. Jared Goff was decent during his time in LA and even helped the Rams get to the Super Bowl. However, it became clear that if Los Angeles was going to form a dynasty they needed a better option at QB. So expectations were sky high when news of the Stafford trade to LA became official.

Stafford and Kupp immediately formed a dynamic connection with one another. Kupp found himself in the MVP conversation and ended up being the named the Super Bowl MVP. But as good as he was, his remarkable campaign would not have been possible without the man throwing the football.

Matthew Stafford is superstar, winner, and is extremely worthy of this contract extension.
