A quarterback trade has finally been announced, but it’s not about Houston Texans star QB Deshaun Watson. The Los Angeles Rams and Detroit Lions have agreed to a deal that sends Jared Goff, two future first-round picks, and a third-round pick to Detroit in exchange for Matthew Stafford.

Details of the deal were reported by ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

Earlier this week, new Lions coach Dan Campbell revealed that trade talks are “hot and heavy”  for the services of the former No. 1 overall draft pick and there have been several offers from numerous teams. Looks like it's the Rams that emerged as victors in the Matthew Stafford sweepstakes. The San Francisco 49ers were also previously linked to a deal for the one-time Pro bowl member.

Stafford has been in the Lions' lair since 2009, where he won Comeback Player of The Year in 2011. He successfully threw for more than 4,000 yards in eight of the past 10 seasons in Detroit. Stafford finishes his career with the Lions as the franchise's all-time leader in several categories, including completions (3,898) passing yards (45,109), passing touchdowns (282), and quarterback wins (74).

But despite his individual accolades, the Lions haven't had much success during his time with the team and have appeared in only three playoff games, which all resulted in heartbreaking defeats. The Lions last made the postseason in 2016. All in all, Stafford has an underwhelming record of 74-90-1 in his tenure with the Lions.

Stafford will now have a chance to join a contending team with the Rams, who finished second in the NFC this season.
