Heading into the season finale matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, the Los Angeles Rams have had questions around the status of star running back Todd Gurley due to a lingering knee injury.

This had forced him to miss the first two practice sessions of the week that created a bigger cloud of uncertainty for his availability for Sunday's game. The Rams have finally brought clarity to the situation by ruling him out of action for the contest, according to Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk.

The Rams officially ruled running back Todd Gurley out of Sunday’s regular season finale against the 49ers, giving him time to rest his ailing left knee.

This decision falls in line with the plan of action that Los Angeles has taken over the last couple of weeks as the team is treading in the path of precaution in order to avoid any possible setbacks. Head coach Sean McVay made it quite clear last week that the team wasn't going to risk his playoff availability by any means.

At the same time, McVay had stated that Gurley could have played in last Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals, but the Rams elected to keep him out of the mix. In his place, recently-signed running back C.J. Anderson has quickly stepped up as he notched 167 rushing yards on 20 attempts and a touchdown.

This should see the Rams stay with the game plan of a heavy reliance on Anderson to lead the way in the running game on Sunday afternoon.
