With the Philadelphia Eagles having signed quarterback Carson Wentz to a lucrative extension, the focus has now been shifted to the Los Angeles Rams and their plan for quarterback Jared Goff. Fortunately, head coach Sean McVay has seemingly indicated that it will all get settled in due time.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding Goff's future in Los Angeles. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, McVay is hoping that it is tied to his for years to come:

“Any of the things or narratives that are out there, Jared Goff, as long as I’m fortunate enough to be in this role, hopefully this guy’s stuck with me for a long time,” McVay told reporters on Tuesday. “So he’s an outstanding leader. People make a deal about the system, but he’s the season why. Our players are the reason why the system is what it is because he can do so many different things.

“And really when you just look at the confidence we have in him . . . taking steps from Year One in the system to Year Two just thinking back to last year how confident he was and now I think it’s even that much more this year. . . . He’s got true ownership, great ability to communicate with his teammates, and with him leading the way we feel really good.”

It is encouraging to see that McVay appears to be all in on Goff as his future franchise quarterback. News of Wentz's recent extension had brought his situation to the forefront. While the Eagles decided to act now, the Rams have indicated that they will continue to be patient with the negotiations. their approach had initially raised questions regarding their confidence in Goff, however, McVay's comments dispel that notion.

There is certainly good reason for his praise of Goff. The former No. 1 overall pick had been labeled a bust following a disastrous rookie season. Fortunately, McVay's arrival helped spark a sudden resurgence that has helped him get voted to two consecutive Pro Bowls while leading his team to Super Bowl 53. Although there is still much more room for improvement, it is safe to say that the 24-year-old has proven that he has what it takes to lead the Rams to the promised land.

The onus will now be on Goff's camp and the Rams' front office to hash out a deal that benefits both sides for years to come. They will likely be using Wentz's four-year, $128 million extension as a benchmark for his new deal.
