The Los Angeles Rams took a significant leap forward in the 2017 season reaching the playoffs for the first time in well over a decade. Much of that came with a much-improved offense under first-year head coach Sean McVay with second-year quarterback Jared Goff leading the charge.

A large part of this stemmed from the strong relationship that Goff and McVay have quickly developed between the two has helped the team foster an identity. According to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, the 32-year-old stated that he plans on spending more time with his Pro Bowl quarterback over the next several months in the offseason.

“Not only the head coach-quarterback relationship, but the playcaller-quarterback relationship is paramount for us moving forward, to continue to improve on the rapport that we've already developed and the relationship that we have,” McVay said in a phone conversation from the scouting combine in Indianapolis earlier this week.

“It's just being intentional about connecting with your guy. Year 2, when you don't have the amount of things that you're not necessarily accustomed to doing — I think just getting a more comfortable rhythm will allow you to kind of project being around a little bit more, but still also letting your coaches coach.”

Following a difficult rookie campaign, Goff showed much progress in his development this past season finishing 1oth with 3,804 passing yards, fifth with 28 passing touchdowns, and fifth with 100.5 passer rating. He also saw a huge jump up in his completion percentage from 54.6 to 62.1 and from 5.3 yards per attempt to 8.0.

This also includes five games with more than 300 passing yards, six with a passer rating above 100, and nine games with multiple touchdown passes. Goff is the first player in franchise history to pass for 300-plus yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in consecutive games. This has helped earn back the recognition as the long-term answer under center for the Rams over the next decade.

Much of this should likely hinge on the relationship between Goff and McVay as the centerpieces to leading their future. This offseason could help further that process along to build toward another highly successful season.
