Los Angeles Rams Sean McVay provided a more precise timeline on Clay Matthews' recovery from a broken jaw on Monday.

McVay originally said that Matthews would be out around a month, and now McVay said the exact timeline is 4-6 weeks.

“I think he’s feeling good. That’s not an ideal situation, kind of a freak accident. But he’ll be out at least the next 4-6 weeks. It’s going to be something where you kind of monitor that diet and it’s going to be a challenge any time you have that,” McVay said via The Rams Wire. Realistically, probably coming back after the bye is what’s most likely, the realistic scenario for us.”

Matthews suffered the broken jaw during the Rams Thursday night game against the Seattle Seahawks, and he currently still has his jaw wired shut.

Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson inadvertently kicked Matthews in the face, and that is what caused the broken jaw.

With Matthews out, it will be Samson Ebukam, who is asked to fill in, and it's someone the team has a lot of confidence in.

“Samson will be asked to step up,” McVay said via Pro Football Talk. “He’s played a lot of important snaps for us. He’s a guy that we have a lot of confidence in. Really, we’ll have a chance to really get a chance to evaluate some of these younger players that might get a chance to play as well.”

The Rams play the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, and the defense is going to be tested.
