The Los Angeles Rams got right on Sunday, soundly defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars 37-7. In the win, back up running back Sony Michel had an outstanding game, leaving fantasy football managers wondering what this backfield will look like going forward.

After the game, Rams head coach Sean McVay addressed the inactivity of starting running back Darrell Henderson Jr.

Henderson had been dealing with a thigh injury he sustained in the Week 12 loss to Green Bay. Henderson Jr. failed to practice all week, but was listed as active. Yet, he did not see the field Sunday.

In his place, Sony Michel performed admirably. He finished the game with 24 carries for 121 yards rushing and a touchdown. He added three catches for eight yards out of the backfield.

Those are RB1 numbers in most fantasy football leagues. Michel has spelled Henderson a times throughout the season and has looked good when doing so. After Sunday’s performance, one wonders if McVay might begin to lean more toward a two-back committee approach. That would certainly hamstring Henderson Jr’s fantasy value.

Through the first 12 weeks of the season, Henderson Jr. has been a borderline RB1. He has been a bell cow back for Los Angeles, who has one of the best offenses in football.

Believe it or not, this was the first time this season any Rams player has rushed for 100 yards in a game. Henderson typically provides some of his value in the receiving game as well.

Next week, the Rams travel to Arizona to face the division leading Cardinals. Their rush defense is the only weakness of the team, so it will be interesting to see how the Rams backfield shakes out.
