The Los Angeles Rams have emerged as one of the strongest contenders in the NFL this season. The offseason trade that brought in quarterback Matthew Stafford from the Detroit Lions was a big reason why.

While Rams fans were optimistic that Matthew Stafford would be an upgrade over Jared Goff from last season, head coach Sean McVay admitted that Stafford has far exceeded even his own lofty expectations.

Via ProFootballTalk:

“He has been better than I thought, and I thought he was going to be really good,” the Rams coach said. “I’ve been really impressed with his body of work and his resume over the course of his career. I think he’s doing a great job. I think the best players elevate those around them. I think guys are playing better around him. I think he’s seeing the field really well.”

The Rams were sees as a Super Bowl favorite this past offseason. But a lot of that was largely due to their defensive prowess with All-Pro stars in Jalen Ramsey and Aaron Donald wreaking havoc on that side of the field.

All they needed was passable quarterback play from Matthew Stafford and he's rewarded him with so much more. He ranks 4th in total passing yards, 3rd in yards per pass, and is tied for third in passing touchdowns with Dak Prescott. He also leads the entire NFL in adjusted quarterback rating among all qualified QBs.

Sean McVay's Rams have all the makings of a winner this season – and Matthew Stafford is right at the center of it.
