During his career with the then-St. Louis Rams, former Pro Bowl running back Steven Jackson was one of the league's most productive players at the position. In fact, he finished as the all-time leading rusher in Rams history before his tenure with the team ended after nine seasons.

During a recent trip back to the team's practice facility, Jackson made the bold statement of declared himself as the best running back that the franchise has ever had, according to Gary Klein of LA Times.

“Sometimes, I talk to current fans here [in Los Angeles] and there's an argument of who's the greatest running back to be a Ram,” Jackson said Friday at the Rams' Thousand Oaks training facility, where he took part in an alumni weekend. “I think it's me.

Jackson put together quite a productive career with the Rams,  posting 10,138 yards and 56 touchdowns while making 407 receptions for 3,324 receiving yards and eight touchdowns over that span. He compiled at least 1,000 rushing yards eight straight years while earning three Pro Bowl selections and two Second-Team All-Pro nods. Beyond holding the franchise mark for rushing yards, Jackson is also one of 31 players in league history to have more than 10,000 career yards on the ground.

His best campaign came in 2006 when he rushed for 1,528 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns while leading all running backs with 90 receptions for 806 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He also led the NFL in total yards from scrimmage with 2,334 in that season. He finished what can be a considered fringe Hall of Fame career with 11,438 rushing yards, 3,683 receiving yards, and 78 total touchdowns.

That said, Jackson's comments put him over the likes of Hall of Famers Eric Dickerson and Marshall Faulk, who were both game-changing talents. Los Angeles' current running back Todd Gurley also has a chance to ingrain himself in that conversation if he can continue to produce at the pace that he did this past season where he won the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award. If anything, this makes for another topic of debate ranking all-time franchise greats in Rams history.
