The Los Angeles Rams just had their most successful season in nearly 20 years. They made it all the way to the Super Bowl and were on the verge of winning a championship. But despite the success they've had the past couple of seasons, they're in no rush to lock up their franchise quarterback, Jared Goff.

The Rams took Goff first overall back in 2016, and he still has two years left on his rookie deal including the fifth-year option. Head coach Sean McVay has turned the team around from perpetual mediocrity to one of the best teams in the league in a remarkably short period of time. Speaking from the owners meetings earlier today, McVay didn't sound too concerned about Goff's contract, according to Gary Klein of The Los Angeles Times.

“Jared’s obviously extremely important to us. But those are things that, we know we want to get him done at some point. Whether it happens this year, next year, those are things we haven’t really gotten into in depth about yet,” McVay said.

One reason the Rams aren't in any hurry is because they've doled out a ton of money recently. They signed Brandin Cooks to a huge new deal after trading for him, they recently made Aaron Donald the highest-paid defensive player in the game, and they also handed out a record-breaking extension to Todd Gurley. The Rams aren't exactly swimming in cap space, so it makes sense why they'd want to kick the can down the road a little with Goff.

After the Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots, there were faint murmurs that the Rams weren't completely committed to Goff long-term. Goff has put up big numbers, but many believe the offense's success is due more to McVay than anything the quarterback has done. Still, Goff made major strides this past season, and the Rams will almost certainly lock him up with a huge extension at some point.
