Former Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley was an unfortunate victim of the business side of the NFL this offseason. Gurley, a two-time First-Team All-Pro selection, was released by LA on Thursday for mostly financial reasons.

However, Gurley seemed to get the last word in, as he is still owed a large amount of money by the Rams organization. By dropping him when they did, Los Angeles took on $20.15 million in dead cap space.

One day later, the former University of Georgia star would sign with the Atlanta Falcons. In the NFL's post about the signing on Instagram, Gurley subtly took a shot at his former team commenting “@rams thanks for the check today.”

After a career year in 2018, injuries caught up to the 6-foot-1, 224-pound pack and he failed to make the same sort of impact this past season. In 15 games, Todd Gurley carried the ball 223 times for 857 yards and 12 touchdowns while adding 207 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver.

While his 14 total touchdowns is still impressive, Gurley's 3.8 yards per carry last season was below average and the Rams, as a whole, regressed after making the Super Bowl the season prior.

Regardless, the 25-year-old signing with the Falcons could very well be a match made in heaven. The Falcons ranked 30th in the NFL in rushing yards per game (85.1) and after dropping starting running back Devonta Freeman, the team was in desperate need of a leading rusher.

Atlanta signed the five-year NFL veteran to a one-year deal worth $6 million.
