Over the past half-decade or so, the Seattle Seahawks have been a dominant force in the NFC West led by a stout defense and quarterback Russell Wilson. Pete Carroll's squad was thought to keep this talented group of players intact for a long time, but that's no longer the case, and no one is happier than Todd Gurley and the division rival Los Angeles Rams.

The Seahawks are officially in rebuilding mode with a number of their big-name players either having retired or set to suit up elsewhere in the NFL in 2018. The dismantling of the Legion of Boom has resulted in a power shift in the NFC with the Rams taking full advantage. Gurley recently talked about their division rivals starting from scratch, via Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire.

“Hey, you know we’re happy about it,” Gurley told Rams Wire while attending the Gatorade Player of the Year awards this week. “We have to take advantage of the situation while we can. Those guys have been beating up on us for a while now. … It’s definitely time for us to come in and try to take over this division and try to be back-to-back champs. It’s not going to be easy. Everyone in your division knows you as well as you do, so we have to just come and try to take over that division.”

Last season, the Seahawks failed to make the playoffs while the Rams flourished under new head coach Sean McVay. Los Angeles went on to have their most successful year in recent memory while it became evident changes were on the horizon for Seattle.

Without Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Michael Bennett, Jimmy Graham, Jeremy Lane, and Cliff Avril, the Seahawks are no longer the intimidating force of old. The Rams, however, have Super Bowl aspirations with Gurley coming off an MVP-caliber season and the team bolstering its roster with the additions of Ndamukong Suh, Brandin Cooks, Marcus Peters, and Aqib Talib.

The NFC West is now up for grabs with the Rams the favorites to come out on top in 2018 if they can hold off the resurgent San Francisco 49ers led by quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
