The Los Angeles Rams have arguably the best running back in the NFL in Todd Gurley. However, injuries slowed him down at the end of last season. In fact, it's gotten to the point where some people have speculated heavily about his future.

That speculation wasn't silenced when the Rams traded up in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft to select running back Darrell Henderson Jr. either.

Of course, this could have nothing to do with the Rams believing Gurley's days are numbered. On the contrary, they could believe this is a perfect pairing. It gives Gurley a chance to rest a little more and gives them a ridiculously scary 1-2 punch that keeps the defense on their toes the entire game.

That being said, Henderson struggled in his first preseason action. He looked better in week 2 though, and Todd Gurley noticed. In an email from Rams' communications, he expressed his thoughts on Henderson Jr.'s preseason week 2 performance.

“He did good, man. Right off the bat got him a real route, made those guys look silly, had a couple good runs, did a good job with his eyes on the pass-pro game and stuff like that. But, it was good just to see him out there.”

Of course, there's still a lot to be done on the running back front for the Los Angeles Rams. Darrell Henderson Jr. still needs some work, and should get a good amount seeing as Todd Gurley likely isn't playing this preseason.

Meanwhile, Gurley needs to be 100% for the start of the season. This Los Angeles Rams offense is absolutely terrifying. Even without Gurley, they could easily be one of the best units in the NFL. With Gurley though, records could be broken.

Pairing the veteran with the rookie could help save his legs and give this offense a new wrinkle. Gurley seems not only impressed, but happy with Henderson Jr. being on the team.

Now it's time to play.
