The left knee of Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley is in the minds of many. After winning 2018's Offensive Player of the Year and leading the NFL in touchdowns in 2019 (17), Gurley was diagnosed with arthritis in his left knee — a concerning injury for a “bell-cow” back.

Gurley first hurt his knee in Week 1 of the 2018 regular season. But he persevered; until it flared up late into the season — forcing him to miss two games and take a lesser workload in the playoffs and Super Bowl.

But, “it's fine,” as Gurley told ESPN's Lindsey Thiry on Thursday.

Recent reports indicate the same. He won't be on a play count for Week 1 of the season, per Thiry. Head coach Sean McVay mentioned on Thursday that he's “feeling good,” and is the starting back.

“Todd Gurley is feeling good, he’s our starting back. He’s been one of the best all-purpose backs, based on his production and what he’s done for us over the last couple of years,” McVay said, per Cameron DaSilva of USA Today. “We’ve got two guys in Malcolm Brown and Darrell Henderson Jr. that we feel really confident about, being able to spell him. But what we do as far as activating different personnel groups and things like that — those are things that we will see on Sunday.”

Gurley says his knee is fine. Yet, naysayers continue to exist. The best way to make them go extinct, however, is Week 1 of the season.

If he can show he can continue to handle a high workload, he'll prove there is only truth to those words.
