Over the last couple of weeks, Los Angeles Rams star running back Todd Gurley has been working through a nagging knee issue that has limited his availability on the field.

It has already led to him missing Week 16 action against the Arizona Cardinals and looks to once again be the case for the season finale matchup against the San Francisco 49ers as he isn't expected to practice on Thursday, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

McVay said that Gurley will not take part in the team’s second practice of the week. Gurley, who was a last-minute inactive last week due to a knee injury, was also out of practice on Wednesday.

The Rams clearly have a game plan to keep him fresh for the playoffs, which should see him sit out the final two games of the season. What has helped fuel this notion is the presence of recently acquired running back C.J. Anderson, as he was able to quickly step in to provide stable production against the Cardinals with 167 yards on 20 attempts and a touchdown.

He has allowed Los Angeles to go the precautionary route, given the level of production that Anderson has provided in his absence. Keep in mind, head coach Sean McVay had stated last week that he didn't want to put Gurley's availability for the playoffs in doubt by any means.

Barring any sort of change in the game plan, Gurley will not suit up for the second straight week in order to keep him healthy and ready to go for the playoffs.
