Through the first two weeks of the NFL preseason, Los Angeles Rams rookie wide receiver Cooper Kupp has continued to make major headway behind his strong play.

This has quickly led to veteran cornerback Trumaine Johnson to voice much praise toward his teammate with the firm belief that he could capture the NFL Offensive Rookie award for this upcoming season, according to Myles Simmons of TheRams.com.

“I told him a week ago: Rookie of the Year. That should be his goal in my mind,” Johnson said. “He’s from the Big Sky [Conference], I’m from the Big Sky. I knew coming in he had great route running — he could come in right now and compete, and start.”

Kupp is coming off an encouraging performance on Saturday night against the Oakland Raiders where he posted team highs with six catches on seven targets for 70 receiving yards and a touchdown. It has pushed his numbers in the preseason to eight receptions on 10 targets for 105 receiving yards and a touchdown.

The 24-year-old has already developed some strong chemistry with second-year quarterback Jared Goff that has become increasingly evident with each passing week in the preseason. He has become a go-to target in third-down situations while also showing to be a sure-handed receiving option in the process.

All of this may foreseeably lead to a highly productive rookie campaign for Kupp that could see him be mentioned in the conversation for the prestigious honor.
