Fresh off their most successful season in well over a decade, the Los Angeles Rams have a few major decisions in free agency on the docket that will first need to be addressed prior to the 2018 NFL Draft. The front office has already made it known that they are looking to continue to improve the team the expected acquisition of All-Pro cornerback Marcus Peters from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Among those potential decisions involved parting ways with former Pro Bowl defensive end Robert Quinn being a salary cap casualty in order to help their efforts in keeping their key pending free agents on board. According to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network, the Rams have agreed to move Quinn to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a few draft picks.

This is a bit of a surprising decision given that there had been no previous chatter of the Rams looking to gauge interest in the trade market for the 27-year-old. Quinn has been one of the mainstays having played his first seven years with the organization as one of their consistent contributors defensively.

He is still in the prime of his career coming off a respectable 2017 campaign where he recorded 8.5 sacks that pushed him to a tie with Kevin Carter for third all-time in franchise history with 62.5 sacks. For much of the last few seasons of his career, injuries had become a concern but he was able to play in 15 games in 2017 with his only absence in being in the season finale where the team elected to sit several of its key players ahead of the playoffs.

The decision to move Quinn now lifts the two remaining on his deal that will pay him $25.33 million that should free up more space toward helping the Rams' efforts of re-signing a few of their key players in safety Lamarcus Joyner, wide receiver Sammy Watkins, and cornerback Trumaine Johnson. Meanwhile, the Dolphins have beefed up their defensive line with another formidable pass rusher alongside defensive end Cameron Wake, and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

The deal can't be finalized until the new league year begins on March 14.
