Following their first playoff appearance in over a decade, the Los Angeles Rams have several major decisions to make this upcoming offseason concerning the roster.

One such decision will likely involve the status of wide receiver Tavon Austin's future with the team. Alden Gonzalez of ESPN analyzes the organization's current situation and kicks around the idea that they may opt to cut Austin in the coming weeks.

The Rams can save $3 million in 2018 by parting with Austin, who comes with an $8 million cap hit and a $5 million dead cap, according to Spotrac. If he's still on the team by March 16, Austin is paid a $5 million roster bonus. The sixth-year gadget receiver is under team control through 2021, but the Rams can get out from under his contract without paying him a dime after this season.

The 26-year-old is set to begin the four-year, $42 million extension that will pay him $8 million in base salary and bonuses for the 2018 season. However, The Rams have an out on the deal after next year that would allow them to get out from the entire contract altogether.

Austin is still a valued part of the team, but his role was significantly reduced in the 2017 campaign that began with the front office, making the move to acquire Sammy Watkins from the Buffalo Bills last August. The additions of Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods in the 2017 NFL Draft and free agency respectively further displaced his playing time in the passing game.  Meanwhile, Pharoh Cooper took over his special teams' spot as the punt and kickoff returner that saw him become a Pro Bowler.

On top of all that, Austin only took the field for two offensive snaps in the Rams wildcard playoff game against the Atlanta Falcons. The writing is certainly on the wall that his time is coming to a close in Los Angeles. It may just be a matter of time before he finds himself on the free agent market in the offseason.
