Jared Goff hung up on Rams head coach Sean McVay when he called about trade to Lions
Following the Los Angeles Rams’ playoff elimination at the hands of the Green Bay Packers in last season’s NFC divisional round, there was much talk on whether Jared Goff is indeed the answer for the team at the quarterback position.
Months later, the Rams front office provided an answer to this dilemma, as the team traded Goff and a trio of draft picks to the Detroit Lions in return for veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford.
The move did not catch Stafford off guard, as he had requested a trade in the offseason. However, this blockbuster trade surely must have caught Goff by surprise, especially as he did not want to hear Rams head coach Sean McVay’s reasoning for the move.
As noted by NFL insider Jay Glazer on FOX NFL Sunday today, McVay called Goff following the trade but was subsequently hung up on by the quarterback. The two, however, did speak to each other a week or two later “just for a little bit.”
Glazer further added that a month or two later, McVay was at a restaurant in Los Angeles with other Rams coaches. A mere two tables over was Goff sitting at the restaurant. McVay ended up walking over to talk to Goff for a minute in what was described as a “cordial” conversation.
McVay did note last week that he wished he had “better, clearer communication” with Goff before the trade was agreed to. Goff, in response, mentioned that he appreciated McVay’s comments on the matter.
Goff sure will aim to prove doubters wrong in his first career game against the Rams today. More so, Goff will also look to pick up his first win in the NFL with McVay not as his head coach, as he currently holds a lowly 0-13 record without him.
