George Springer announced Thursday he'd be sitting out the 2022 MLB All-Star game in order to further rest his injured elbow, prompting the league to find a replacement for the Blue Jays outfielder. It didn't take long for his replacement to be announced, as Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager has been selected to fill his spot amongst the American League reserves at the Midsummer Classic.

It'll be a homecoming of sorts for Seager as he's set to return to Dodger Stadium for the festivities after leaving the team this offseason. Seager signed a 10-year, $325 million deal with the Rangers, making him one of baseball's highest-paid players.

Seager is certainly deserving of the All-Star nod as he's enjoyed a tremendous season with the Rangers in his first year at Globe Life Park. The 28-year-old is slashing .245/.321/.787 with 21 home runs, 48 RBI, and 46 runs scored this season.

This will be his third-career All-Star appearance and his first representing the American League. He hasn't been to the Midsummer Classic since 2017 when he was with the Dodgers, so he'll certainly be excited to have received the call.

Corey Seager is the only Rangers batter in the All-Star Game, and he'll join teammate Martín Perez on the American League squad. They are the only two representatives from the Rangers this season.

Rangers fans will certainly be delighted that one of their big offseason acquisitions got the nod for the All-Star Game, especially considering the team spent upwards of $500 million on star talent this season, and initially, none of their big-money makers had earned a spot on the roster.
