After a seven-season run with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Corey Seager opted to take his talents to the Texas Rangers in December. Even though Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman had expressed an interest in keeping the versatile shortstop, Seager still elected to sign with the Rangers on a 10-year, $325 million deal.

In speaking to MLB Network Radio, Seager took a look back on the Rangers’ recruitment of him in free agency. Among the factors that led to his call to join the Rangers, he much aspired to play for manager Chris Woodward.

“We're trending upwards,” Seager said. “Woody [Chris Woodward] was a huge part of my decision. Knowing how he is, knowing how he approaches the game, knowing how I am and how I approach the game. The stars aligned.”

As Seager touched on, the Rangers are a franchise that is trending “upwards.” Along with Seager, the front office also bolstered the lineup with the free agent additions of Marcus Semien and Kole Calhoun. More so, the team bolstered its starting rotation with the signing of Jon Gray.

A year after they finished with 102 losses, the Rangers sure head into the upcoming 2022 season with plenty of expectations to orchestrate a bounce-back campaign. They will kick off regular season play with a three-game road series against the Toronto Blue Jays beginning on April 8.
