The Texas Rangers made a monumental splash in free agency when they locked down superstar shortstop Marcus Semien on a lucrative seven-year deal. With a key infield position now intact for the future, the Rangers are fast at work addressing other needs on the roster.

Well, Texas has added another key bat to the equation, coming to terms on an agreement with free-agent outfielder Kole Calhoun, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic

Calhoun will join a Rangers' outfield consisting of the up-and-coming Adolis Garcia, Eli White, DJ Peters, and Leody Tavares. While the veteran may end up in a platoon role, especially if the Rangers continue spending at this rate, he can still end up being a valuable acquisition, depending on the price range of the deal.

Calhoun, 34, spent the past two seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Injuries limited him to just 51 games last year, and he slashed .235/.297/.373 with five home runs and 17 RBI in the small sample size. His 2020 season was far superior, despite the shortened 60-game campaign. Calhoun managed 16 home runs and 40 RBI across 54 games that year, one of his best in the big leagues.

Clearly, Chris Woodward and Co. are hoping they will be getting the 2020 version of Calhoun, rather than the one that occasionally patrolled the outfield in Arizona. Prior to his stint with the D-Backs, Calhoun had spent the first eight years of his MLB career with the Los Angeles Angels, featuring in the outfield alongside Mike Trout and Justin Upton.

With Semien and Calhoun already under their belt, the Rangers will continue to be players in the offseason as the team looks to prepare for a World Series push in the coming seasons.
