Everyone knows what Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady can do, but there are some solid quarterbacks who are being overlooked heading into the 2020 NFL season.

Every starting quarterback in the league everyone knows about, so these aren't really players who are going to break out and shock you, but rather players who are better than others give them credit for.

Let's look at the five most underrated NFL quarterbacks heading into the 2020 season.

5. Gardner Minshew

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew had a strong rookie season, but he is still being overlooked heading into his second year. Heading into the 2019 season, no one was talking about Minshew, but when Nick Foles went down with an injury, Minshew was thrown into action.

Most recognize that Minshew is a solid quarterback, but he is really hurt with his reputation because he plays for the Jaguars. If Minshew would have been playing for a big market team, he would have been the most talked about story on SportsCenter every day. Maybe a strong 2020 season will get him the respect he deserves, but don't count on it.

4. Ryan Fitzpatrick

Ryan Fitzpatrick has never received the credit he has deserved. Right now, at best, he is a place holder for Tua Tagovailoa, who the Miami Dolphins selected with the fifth overall pick. Throughout his career, Fitzpatrick has been nothing but a pro while playing on a lot of bad teams.

The 2019 Dolphins team wasn't good, but Fitzpatrick still found a way to keep the team in most of the games. In 13 starts, Fitzpatrick managed five wins, which might not seem like a lot, but considering the talent on the team, even two wins would have been impressive.

Even if Fitzpatrick is the backup this season to Tua, he will do what he has always done in the NFL, and that's be a professional about it.

3. Deshaun Watson

It's a miracle at this point that Deshaun Watson hasn't requested a trade from the Houston Texans. The Texans still haven't put a good offensive line in front of him since coming into the NFL. He has had good wide receivers, but now the team has traded away DeAndre Hopkins for David Johnson, who is a shell of his former self.

Watson might not have had the playoffs success that others have, but that shouldn't take away from how good of a quarterback he is. Watson should be in the conversation of the top five quarterbacks in the league, but he is often overlooked.

2. Kirk Cousins

Kirk Cousins gets a lot of hate for his play, but he is a good quarterback. With the Washington Redskins, he was on a lot of bad teams, something that he couldn't help. Cousins also gets hate for not winning the big game, but in 2019 with the Minnesota Vikings, he led them to a couple of big-time wins.

He almost led the Vikings to a comeback against the Seattle Seahawks during a primetime game. Cousins also beat the Dallas Cowboys on the road, and during the playoffs, he went into the Superdome and helped knock off Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.

1. Russell Wilson

Everyone knows Russell Wilson is a good quarterback, but he still probably doesn't get enough credit for what he has done. Former standout Tiki Barber said it best about Wilson:

“At the end of the day, a team that has a quarterback who interestingly never gotten a MVP vote, but is always in the MVP conversation; I mean, it’s baffling the disrespect that Russell Wilson gets,” [retired New York Giants running back Tiki] Barber said. “Maybe the most underrated quarterback in the NFL these days. But a team that has a Russell Wilson – who is always going to find a way to create and make plays happen, has a chance in the NFL.”

Everyone seems to take for granted what Wilson does, which puts him number one on the list.
