Team president Masai Ujiri of the Toronto Raptors signed a multi-year extension last week.

Ujiri will only hold the responsibility of team president now, and has promoted assistant general manager Jeff Weltman to General Manager, and the organization's cap guru Bobby Webster to assistant general manager.

Ujiri will oversee basketball operations, but this is all about making moves internally on a good note.

The team president gave his thoughts on the promotions in the official Raptors press release:

“I am grateful to the Board and Mr. Tanenbaum for the opportunity to continue our progress to build the Raptors into one of the top franchises in the NBA.

“I’m also excited that Jeff and Bobby are being rewarded for their hard work and valuable contributions to our program. My family thanks the NBA, Raptors players and coaches, staff, Raptors fans, the city of Toronto, and Canada for this opportunity.

Toronto is home for us.”

After Ujiri took over as general manager in 2013, the Raptors have had some of their most successful seasons since becoming an expansion team in the NBA.

His plan of building around Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan has been paying off, and the team is still getting better.

Since taking over, the Raptors have been to the playoffs every year and have been able to establish a standard for the city of Toronto.

Last season they won 56 games, hosted the All-Star Game with two All-Stars of their own participating. They also came within two wins of the NBA Finals.

The patience and stability that has surrounded those successes are what Ujiri is building upon. Not only is the roster being upgraded when possible, but the front office management is as well.
