Serge Ibaka’s age has been a mystery in NBA circles for some time now. Rumor has it that Ibaka is much older than the 28 years old he claims to be. Even his Toronto Raptors teammates don’t really know Serge’s real age, according to DeMar DeRozan.

However, DeRozan does cheekily admit Ibaka’s been playing like the much younger version of himself lately.

“We don't know how old Serge really is. So sometimes he look like he's 28, sometimes he looks like he 38. He's been looking 28 lately.”

Ibaka has been looking more like the 38-year-old version of himself in what has generally been a disappointing season thus far. He’s averaging 12.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, his lowest numbers since 2012. That’s concerning for Toronto seeing as Ibaka is just in the first year of a three-year, $65 million contract which he signed this summer.

However, Ibaka’s played much better recently, albeit against relatively weak competition. He had 15 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks against the Indiana Pacers, who have been awful at defending frontcourt players this season. He followed that up with 19 points, six rebounds, and three blocks against the Phoenix Suns.

Whatever Ibaka’s age really is, though, the Raptors simply need more consistent production out of him in order to remain in the top three in the Eastern Conference race.
