Among the plethora of moves this past summer, veteran forward C.J. Miles signed a 3-year deal to join the Toronto Raptors.

It didn't take long for Miles to make a huge impact on his new team as he scored 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting off the bench in the season-opening win over the Chicago Bulls. However, Raptors head coach Dwane Casey was most impressed by the shot selection of the 30-year-old to which he credited to former Utah Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan, according to Doug Smith of The Star.

“CJ has that (ability to find and take good shots),” Raptors coach Dwane Casey said. “A lot of that comes from his days in Utah (the Jazz originally drafted him in 2005) with Jerry Sloan, coming off screens, getting set quickly, getting his feet set, hands ready quickly, floating to the opening . . . he does that naturally.”

C.J. Miles spent the first seven years of his career with the Jazz, with a significant bulk of that spent playing under Sloan. The Hall of Fame head coach played a significant part in shaping the player that Miles has become over his career that helped him continue to be an effective offensive player on the court.

He is coming off one of his most efficient shooting campaigns where he averaged 10.7 points on 43.4 percent shooting from the field and a career-high 41.3 percent from beyond the arc with the Indiana Pacers last year. Miles has quickly applied his vast experience playing in the league to his new Raptors team that could bode extremely well for him in a reserve role.

This could all set the table for what could be his best individual campaign while solidifying himself as a significant offensive piece to the puzzle this season in Toronto.
