OG Anunoby has yet to play a competitive game for the Toronto Raptors, but head coach Dwane Casey is already a big fan of the young rookie.

According to TSN’s Josh Lewenberg, Casey says Anunoby is “probably the most powerful young man that we have as far as physicality is concerned.”

Anunoby still recovering from a torn ACL which he suffered in his last season in college. He has not featured in preseason and could potentially miss the start of the regular season.

Anunoby was selected No. 23 overall by the Raptors in last summer’s draft. The Indiana product was touted as a potential lottery pick heading into the draft mainly due to his immense physical tools. He has a massive 7-foot-2 wingspan to go with a sturdy 6-foot-8 frame, as well as great lateral quickness.

With all those tools at his disposal, Anunoby has the potential to be an outstanding defender who could guard just about every position. However, his knee injury, coupled with his lack of development offensively saw him drop in the draft.

Lewenberg was able to see Anunoby in practice, though, and it appears his three-point shooting is coming along well.

Despite his impressive physicality, it remains to be seen whether Anunoby will be a significant contributor to the Raptors this season. However, Casey can afford to take his time with the talented 20-year-old and let the rookie hone his basketball skills more before playing a meaningful role on the Raptors.
