The Toronto Raptors are entering a new era. Gone are Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan and Kawhi Leonard, leaving the remaining members of their championship core to step up into much bigger roles.

Fred VanVleet could very well lead the team in scoring next season, and looks poised to do just that in their first month with Pascal Siakam on the mend after shoulder surgery.

But when asked by reporters on the improving offensive game of OG Anunoby, who's shown flashes of more on-ball skills in the preseason thus far, VanVleet crowned OG the primary weapon instead.

Via Raptors beat reporter Josh Lewenberg:

“Yeah. I mean, consistently. He's had big games in the past, but he's pretty much in his rhythm and in his flow… With Pascal out, he's our number one option right now and he's been great for us.”

It's interesting to note that OG Anunoby wasn't even in the top five on the Raptors' top scorers in terms of average last season, garnering a respectable 15.9 points per game. However, with Norman Powell and Kyle Lowry gone, and Siakam out with injury, the fifth-year wing will have every opportunity he needs to breakout offensively.

The Raptors famously reneged any chance of including OG Anunoby in the trade that brought in Kawhi Leonard. His immense potential was exactly the reason why. Perhaps this is the season we see that potential turn into reality.
