Toronto Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet is poised to capitalize on his breakout 2019-20 season.

VanVleet is one of the top free agents available this offseason, and the Raptors guard is not shy about his desire to sign a big contract in the next month.

The former Wichita State star was the latest guest on JJ Redick's The Old Man and the Three podcast, telling Redick that he is a proven winner who wants to be paid like one:

“I'm trying to get paid, man. I'm not shy about that,” VanVleet said, via John Chick of TheScore. “I don't have to tell people that I value winning. Like, just look at my story, do your research, I've never been on a losing team in my entire life. … I won a championship and now it's time to cash out. I'm 26. … I'm only four years in (to his NBA career) but I feel like I'm on the verge of blossoming even more, with more of a lead role.”

VanVleet thrived in a full-time starting role for the Raptors this past season. The 26-year-old averaged 17.6 points, 6.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 steals while shooting 39.0 percent from beyond the arc on nearly seven attempts per game.

Toronto figures to be a favorite to re-sign VanVleet. The Raptors hold his Bird rights, meaning they can go over the cap in order to retain their star guard.

But VanVleet could look to go elsewhere if he gets a significant offer. The New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons and Phoenix Suns are other teams expected to have interest in VanVleet this offseason.
