Kyle Lowry unfortunately might not get a standing ovation in his return to Toronto due to COVID protocols, but his Raptors teammates will surely give him a warm welcome.

Fred VanVleet, Kyle Lowry's former protégé, talked about the latter's return to Toronto after signing with the Miami Heat in the offseason. The Raptors guard spoke fondly about his former teammate, saying: (via Josh Lewenberg)

“I'm looking forward to playing against the old man, for sure… I'm just looking forward to seeing him more than anything, as a brother and as a friend. And then obviously when the jump ball is thrown it's time to compete.”

It's no secret that Lowry and VanVleet have shared a bond together. The two won a championship together in 2019, the first ring in Raptors history. Lowry essentially took VanVleet under his wing, teaching him tricks and ways to manipulate defenders despite his size. Watch FVV play, and you'll see the influence his former teammate had on him.

Kyle Lowry's return to Toronto has been highly anticipated, as he's a beloved member of the organization. He was one of the foundations of this team, and brought the franchise back to relevancy alongside DeMar DeRozan. Unfortunately, a COVID-19 surge in Canada meant that Scotiabank Arena would not be open to fans when the Heat visit the Raptors.

Still, the Raptors organization are likely planning something special for Lowry's return to Toronto. That doesn't mean, though, that Fred VanVleet and the Raptors are going to give their former captain an easy win.
