The Toronto Raptors are reaping the rewards of trading of Gary Trent Jr.

As the swingman adjusts in his new team and environment, he continues to contribute to the Raptors. This time, he took matters into his own hands against the Washington Wizards.

With the Wizards leading 101-100 with three seconds to go, Trent Jr. quickly ran with the ball to their side of the court and managed to escape his defender to create some space. With the opportunity at the top of the key, the former Portland Trail Blazers swingman didn't waste it and banked the game-winning triple at the buzzer.

Chances looked slim for Toronto to seal a victory after forward Pascal Siakam made an offensive foul with 27 seconds remaining. As Washington was unable to convert on a late-game layup, though, Nick Nurse's team was able to race down the floor with seconds remaining. Trent’s game-winning 3-pointer sealed a terrific fourth quarter for the Raptors, who outscored the Wizards 28-15.

Trent finished the contest with 16 points on 46 percent shooting on the night.

Trent was acquired by the Raptors during the recent trade deadline. Toronto sent one of their veteran leaders, Norman Powell, to Portland in exchange for Trent and Rodney Hood. During his 41 games this season with Portland, Trent quickly emerged as a second option behind Damian Lillard. As Toronto gears for a potential playoff race, the front office believed Trent’s presence could help the team make their run for the postseason.

The Raptors’ victory over the Wizards pushes their record to 20-30 on the season. The team currently sits one spot out of the play-in tournament with the 11th seed in the conference. Toronto’s next matchup is Tuesday night against the defending champion, Los Angeles Lakers.

As Los Angeles is still without their two stars, LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Raptors will look to take advantage with another victory.
