The Toronto Raptors are kicking the tire by giving up DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl, and a 2019 first-round pick to acquire the services of Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green. It’s a gamble on the part of the Raps, as they are not sure whether Leonard has any inkling of playing for them beyond the next season.

There were even rumors that floated around that Leonard could potentially sit out the entire 2018-19 campaign, though, were already squashed by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski a couple of days ago. But if Woj’s words fail to allay fears of Leonard going absent for a season, maybe this will – a photo of Leonard and Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri together at Toronto’s practice facility.

By Leonard’s standards, that seemingly forced smile speaks a thousand words how thrilled he is to be part of the team based north of the border. Masai Ujiri looks happier, though, DeRozan will likely not find this image fun at all once he stumbles upon it on his Twitter timeline.

Leonard has a year left on his contract before he gets a chance to control his own destiny by declining his player option for the 2019-20 season worth $21.3 million. The door is open for him to join the team he initially wanted to be traded to which is the Los Angeles Lakers, but that door will remain wedged open until at least next year, so for now, his focus should be on finding a way to rebuild his much-maligned image and help the Raptors achieve something the franchise hadn’t with DeRozan – an NBA championship parade in Canada.
