The Toronto Raptors take on the Washington Wizards on Wednesday and Raptors star small forward Kawhi Leonard won't play.

Kawhi Leonard is dealing with a sore knee.

Wednesday is the last game for the Raptors before the NBA All-Star break. Leonard is playing on Team LeBron during the All-Star game.

In 43 games this season, Leonard is averaging 27.0 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists. The now three-time All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of the Year is shooting 49.2 percent from the field, 36.3 percent from beyond the arc and 86.4 percent from the free-throw line.

After everything that happened last season with the San Antonio Spurs, Leonard is probably appreciative of the Raptors playing it safe with him. Kawhi can become an unrestricted free agent this summer if he declines his 2019-20 player option with Toronto.

The Raptors enter Wednesday with a record of 42-16, good for second place in the Eastern Conference standings. Leonard hit the game-winning shot on Monday against the Brooklyn Nets at home.

With Leonard out on Wednesday, it will give Toronto a better chance to feature All-Star center Marc Gasol on offense and get him more touches. The franchise acquired Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies at the trade deadline.
