Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry knows his role on the team is going to change since superstar Kawhi Leonard is gone.

Lowry, who signed a one-year extension with the Raptors, says he's aware he's “got to be a lot more of a scorer” with Leonard out in Los Angeles now.

“I’ve got to be a lot more of a scorer,” Lowry said, via Josh Lewenberg of TSN. “It’s going to be interesting how we play. We are always going to move the ball, this, that and the other, backdoors, play through [Gasol]. Myself and [VanVleet] are going to be on the floor together a lot more, I believe. [Siakam] is going to get a lot more attention and I’m going to get a lot more attention.

“But it’s something that I’m used to it and I’m ready for the challenge again. Got to do what’s best for the team and get back to the promised land.”

Lowry averaged 14.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 8.7 assists during the 2018-19 regular-season while shooting 41.1 percent from the field, 34.7 percent from beyond the arc and 83.0 percent from the free-throw line.

In the 2019 playoffs, Lowry put up 15.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.6 assists. The Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals in six games. It was Toronto's first title in franchise history.

The Raptors won't be championship contenders this season, but they should be able to compete in the Eastern Conference with Lowry, Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka, Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet and OG Anunoby leading the way.
