Kyle Lowry signed a one-year, $31 million extension with the Toronto Raptors last week and the point guard is happy he can focus on basketball again.

Lowry had one year left on his deal with the Raptors entering this season. Michael Grange of SportsNet reported that Lowry was prepared to hold out and try and force a trade if he didn’t get an extension from the franchise.

Lowry signed a three-year, $100 million contract with the Raptors in the summer of 2017. The five-time All-Star won his first championship last season.

Lowry averaged 14.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 8.7 assists during the 2018-19 regular season while shooting 41.1 percent from the field, 34.7 percent from beyond the arc and 83.0 percent from the free-throw line.

In the 2019 playoffs, Lowry put up 15.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.6 assists. The Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals in six games.

If the Raptors get off to a slow start, president Masai Ujiri could look to trade Lowry, along with veterans Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka. With superstar Kawhi Leonard gone, Toronto isn't expected to compete for a championship.

The Raptors should be able to make the playoffs in the East, but if something goes wrong and the team completely falls off the map, don't be surprised if Ujiri cleans house and embarks on a full rebuild.
