With the preparations for the upcoming NBA Finals in full swing for the Toronto Raptors, veteran point guard Kyle Lowry took a moment to share how he has been in touch with former teammate DeMar DeRozan throughout Toronto's impressive postseason run.

Lowry explained how he has kept his bond with DeRozan despite how they parted ways last summer following the latter's unexpected trade to the San Antonio Spurs:

“I’ve been speaking to him the whole way,” Lowry said, via Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated. “One thing about him is that he legit cares about me as his best friend. He has texted everyone he has a relationship with and let them know how happy he is for us.”

Obviously, Lowry's and DeRozan's relationship extends far beyond the confines of the basketball court, and this is indeed a refreshing narrative of how they've both made an effort to stay in touch in spite of their circumstances.

Lowry also shared what type of mindset he had to start the season, following the departure of his best friend as well as all the implications of the trade deal:

“It was strictly business,” he exclaimed. “All business. That’s where my emotions were. I didn’t care about the business other than strictly being a basketball player. I didn’t care about being friends with anybody. I didn’t care about this or that. I just legit cared about coming in here and being the best player I could be because everyone was saying, ‘He is not going to do this. He is not going to do that.’ My job was to prove them wrong.”

And prove them wrong he surely did. Now in his first ever Finals appearance, Lowry has one final hurdle to tackle as he hopes to make his mark in the history books.
