Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry says he will be ready to go for opening night when the Raptors host the New Orleans Pelicans.

Lowry had a procedure to repair a tendon injury in his left thumb in July. He practiced with the team on Tuesday for the first time since undergoing surgery.

Last season for the Raptors, Lowry averaged 14.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 8.7 assists while shooting 41.1 percent from the field, 34.7 percent from beyond the arc and 83.0 percent from the free-throw line.

In the 2019 playoffs, Lowry put up 15.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.6 assists. The Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals in six games. Lowry initially injured his thumb in Game 7 of Toronto’s second round series against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Lowry had one year left on his deal with the Raptors, but the franchise gave the All-Star guard a one-year, $31 million extension. Lowry signed a three-year, $100 million contract with the Raptors in the summer of 2017. He will make $33.3 million this season.

The Raptors have one preseason game remaining before the regular season starts. They take on the Brooklyn Nets on Friday. It's unknown if Lowry will play in that game, although head coach Nick Nurse will probably like to see his floor general see some minutes before the real games start.
