Marc Gasol is exercising his $25.6 million player option for 2019-20 with the Toronto Raptors, the team announced.

Gasol could have entered free agency this summer if he declined the option. The All-Star big man wants the chance to defend the Raptors' title next season.

The Raptors acquired Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies on Feb. 7. The three-time All-Star and former Defensive Player of the Year averaged 9.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 26 regular-season games with Toronto while shooting 46.5 percent from the field, 44.2 percent from beyond the arc and 76.9 percent from the free-throw line.

During the playoffs, Gasol put up 9.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. By winning the championship, Gasol and his brother, Pau Gasol, became the first set of brothers in NBA history to win a title.

The Raptors are hoping superstar small forward Kawhi Leonard re-signs with the club. Leonard becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Many believe the two-time Finals MVP will consider signing a short-term deal with Toronto. If Kawhi decides to leave the Raptors, he'll probably sign with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Gasol has pretty much locked up a spot for the NBA Hall of Fame after winning the championship. It has been a terrific career for the Spaniard.
