The Larry O'Bren Trophy tour has continued to make the rounds in Africa. Shortly after Toronto Raptors forward Serge Ibaka brought the trophy to the Congo, Raptors president Masai Ujiri took the title to his boyhood town in Nigeria:

Ujiri has experienced quite a whirlwind as the lead executive in Toronto.

The former NBA Executive of the Year (with the Denver Nuggets) drew some criticism for firing 2018 Coach of the Year Dwane Casey after the Raptors were swept out of the Eastern Conference Semifinals by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Ujiri was then questioned for his decision to trade DeMar DeRozan to the San Antonio Spurs for Kawhi Leonard, who had been wrapped up in his own melodrama with the Spurs and whose contract would expire at the end of the 2018-19 season. Toronto also acquired Danny Green in the deal.

Just over a year after that trade was completed, however, Ujiri has seen the fruits of his labor pay off in droves. Thanks in part to a historic postseason from Leonard, the Raptors won their first NBA championship in franchise history.

Ujiri also made one of the best moves at the February deadline, trading for Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol. Though Gasol struggled to fit in with the team in the final few months of the regular season, he was a vital piece in the playoffs, harassing elite big men like Joel Embiid and offering another scoring option on the floor.

While Leonard and Green have since departed, Gasol elected to exercise his player option, and the Raptors still figure to be one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. Given his history, though, it would not be a surprise to see Ujiri shake things up once again in the near future.
