Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri confirmed he will remain in his current position with the franchise after rumors of the Washington Wizards' interest swirled soon after the team won the NBA title earlier this month, according to Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun.

Ujiri noted that he “loves it” in Toronto, pointing out that his wife and kids are Canadian themselves.

The executive recently pulled off one of the gutsiest moves in NBA history, trading a lifelong cog in DeMar DeRozan for perhaps just one year of Kawhi Leonard, with no pretense to assume he would stay for longer than his contract obligates him to.

That trade brought the city of Toronto its first-ever NBA championship after becoming an expansion team in 1995, seeing the likes of Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady and other greats walk through that door before claiming NBA glory for the first time in 2019:

“It still hasn’t sunk in. It’s such a big thing for our city, our country, our team,” said Ujiri, shouting out the likes of DeRozan, former coach Dwane Casey (whom he fired at the end of last season) and Jonas Valanciunas (traded at the deadline) for building the foundation of this roster.

Soon after reports had gone viral, Wizards owner Ted Leonsis dispelled them, saying he had no plans of an interview with Ujiri.

Leonsis had previously asked permission to interview Denver Nuggets president Tim Connelly, but was turned down for that offer, choosing to finish what he started in Denver.

The Wizards have gone through the NBA Draft, selecting Gonzaga's Rui Hachimura — and reportedly without interviewing him or making him work out for the team — all without a stable presence in the front office.

Assistant GM Tommy Sheppard is in charge of basketball operations as it stands, though his job is not a lock as of yet, which only fanned the flames of potential Ujiri interest in the nation's capital.
