Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri has issued a statement on the departures of Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green in free agency.

Leonard is joining the Los Angeles Clippers, while Green is headed to the Los Angeles Lakers. In his statement, Ujiri thanked Green and Leonard for their services in Toronto. The Raptors won the 2019 title thanks to both guys.

When Ujiri traded for Leonard and Green last summer, he knew this was a possibility. Leonard is from California and it has been the worst kept secret in the NBA that the three-time All-Star wanted to play in Los Angeles. Despite losing Leonard after just one season, the trade with the San Antonio Spurs was worth it for Ujiri and Toronto. The Raptors won their first ever championship, something that can never be taken away.

Ujiri will likely embark on a rebuild now. Look for the Raptors to try and trade Kyle Lowry, Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka and build around Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby and Fred VanVleet. Toronto isn't a title contender anymore with Leonard gone. There's no point for the team to be a middle of the pack squad.

Should the Raptors retire Leonard's No. 2 jersey? Some believe so since The Claw had an amazing one-year run in Canada. We'll see if it happens later down the line.
