Following a narrow 115-112 loss on Friday against the Utah Jazz, Nick Nurse lost his cool, just a little bit. Wanting a late whistle that the Toronto Raptors didn't get, Nurse spun around in frustration and threw his mask before arguing with one of the officials. The response by Adam Silver and the NBA showed they aren't messing around with the discipline.

Via Marc Stein of the New York Times:

Per a release from the league, Nurse was fined $50,000 big ones for his actions at the end of the game. It never crossed my mind that coaches could start using their masks to take out frustration. Nick Nurse has proven that can be the case although, given the hefty fine he received, it's a safe bet it'll be the last time he throws his mask.

Not to make light of the situation, but pretty good form and follow through on that rifle of a throw by Nurse.

It's been a frustrating year for the Raptors. They were expected to compete in the Eastern Conference, if not in the first wave of teams at least in the second tier of teams that are clumped together in the east. It's been the exact opposite kind of year for Toronto.

Currently, the Raptors sit at 17-24, having lost seven in a row and nine out of their last 10. Even with the expanded play in portions of the playoffs this year with the top ten teams in each conference getting a crack at it, the Raptors still wouldn't qualify if the season ended today, resting at 11th place in the East.

There's time for Toronto to turn it around and it will be interesting to see if the Raptors make any moves at the deadline to signal one way or another how they will go at the rest of this season.
