After winning their first-ever NBA championship, the Toronto Raptors and Nick Nurse will play the waiting game this summer. Kawhi Leonard is the focus.

The Raptors will be in an interesting situation: Kawhi Leonard will become a free agent and will get a chance to leave Toronto. Leonard remains mum about his future, and dodged questions about it after winning a title. But despite the uncertainty, Raptors head coach Nick Nurse remains optimistic on their chances of keeping Leonard.

According to Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun, Nurse said that he feels the Raptors can give him a “pretty good deal” this summer. Nurse believes that Leonard had a good season in Toronto because of how people liked him despite the initial reactions from fans when the Raptors traded DeMar DeRozan for him last summer.

Leonard is expected to get enticing offers from several teams, including the Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, and New York Knicks. The 27-year-old forward will get more attention in free agency after superstar free agents Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson sustained devastating injuries in the 2019 NBA Finals.

The former San Diego State standout is coming off the best season of his eight-year NBA career. He averaged career-highs 26.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. In the finals, the three-time All-Star averaged 28.5 points and 9.8 rebounds en route to winning the Finals MVP plum.
