NBA players are always looking for an edge on their competition any way they can and Toronto Raptors head coach, Nick Nurse's nephew, David Nurse is at the forefront of the leading technology. David Nurse is looking to change the way players train and help guys take their game to the next level.

Figuring out what works on the court is important, but Nurse is re-thinking the way people look at training. He spoke with Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype about the evolution of training regiments. Nurse told Kennedy:

“I used to only train players on the court and focus on their individual skills in the basketball realm, but after working with many guys, I started realizing that there’s so much more that goes into their success and development. The on-court stuff is a small piece of the puzzle. There’s much more that determines how an athlete can perform at their highest level every single day. That’s how it started. I became a nut for self-improvement. I wanted to know: How can I make myself the very best version of myself and reach my full potential? And how can I help others do the same thing?”

This sounds more like a philosophy on life than simply a way to focus on training to become a better basketball player. Nurse is focusing on how players eat, sleep, recover, and train their minds in addition to honing their skills on the court.

Clearly, Nurse is taking a big picture view of how to train players and he could be leading the charge in player development.
