Head coach of the Toronto Raptors Dwane Casey should be named coach of the year according to Scott Brooks.

As reported by Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN, the Washington Wizards coach feels Casey should win the award:

Casey guided the Raptors to the best record in the Eastern Conference, 59-23. He's been with the franchise since 2011 and has led the Raptors to five consecutive playoff appearances. They recently wrapped up their series with the Washington Wizards in six games.

Per Michael Grange of SportsNet, Casey spoke about his coaching staff, particularly about how trust has been the main pillar. He listens to everyone's ideas. It doesn't matter if you're officially part of the coaching staff or not. If you have a good idea, he's willing to experiment with it:

The key thing is trust. You have to trust and believe everyone’s heart is synchronized and going the right way and everyone understands their role and no one’s ego gets in the way. One thing that tears a staff up is ego and “mine” and “my idea.” No. It’s ours. It’s all of ours. And at the end of the day it stops with me because if it doesn’t work it’s my fault. It doesn’t matter whose idea it was.

I don’t care if it’s the janitor’s idea — if it helps us win a game, we’re going to go with it.

The past few seasons for Casey have been full of heartbreak. They always perform decently in the regular season. Come playoff time, they seem to falter. Maybe this year will be his year.
